Senior Design Engineer

We're looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join Buffer's Marketing team. You'll be the engineer closest to how Buffer looks and feels on the web — owning the front-end design system, building performant components, and crafting the interactions and animations that bring pages to life. This is a small, agile team where members are trusted to manage their own time, and where you'll work across brand, product marketing, and growth projects.

Buffer recently went through a significant brand redesign, and now wants to scale it — pushing attention to design detail and craft further, improving site performance and accessibility, and creating consumer-grade web experiences.

This role reports to the Head of Engineering Operations and sits on the Marketing team, partnering closely with the Director of Growth Marketing and Head of Communications and Content, and working day-to-day with the Marketing UX Designer.

• Examples of your work — a portfolio, personal site, open source contributions, or anything showing how you think about interaction quality, visual detail, and front-end craft, especially animation work, component systems, or projects where you owned the implementation
• Strong front-end engineering experience with React and TypeScript; the site runs on Next.js, but depth of understanding matters more than exact stack match. Experience with Next.js App Router, SSR/ISR patterns, or Edge functions is a plus
• Hands-on experience with front-end animation (Motion, CSS animations, or your own approach), and experience working with design systems and component libraries
• Care about the details that make a web experience feel right: accessibility, performance, clean code, thoughtful trade-offs
• Think like a designer, not just an engineer — strong sense of visual hierarchy, spacing, typography, and how users move through a page
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity and thinking in systems
• Thrive in remote, async environments
• Likely 5+ years of experience, though depth and impact matter more than years
